This is a long piece and it's taking its time getting to the point. But it may also be a bit dated. The Lancet, the British medical journal that put forward the vacination connection theory, has since retracted it due to flaws in the research. But there does seem to be a biomedical counteroffensive against autism that is successful with many of these kiddos to varying degrees, and we parents will take whatever we can get. There is, of course, a genetic component to autism, and there's an imune deficiency component to autism, and we may find out over time that the two are one in the same. A large number of autistic kids suffer GI issues, from diarrhea to constipation, to oversalivation, to gastric juices passing straight through to the diaper. Many of them go on to have severe feeding disorders. And as the GI issues begin to ramp up, the language begins to slip away. I'm not suggesting cause and effect necessarily, but most of us looking back will tell you that both things happen concurrently. What's causing it to kick in -- whether it's immunizations or lead paint in toys from China or pediatric antibiotic usage -- may not receive medical concensus for a long time. But in the mean time, going after the gut problem does show real merit.
There are so many folks who swear by the gluten free casein free diet that there must be something to it. Others, my family included, have gone to enzyme suppliments and seen real marked improvement within a matter of months. Enzymes were a good choice for us: The feeding disorder developing in both my kids had gotten so severe that resorting to the dietary elimination measures of the GFCF plan would have been almost impossible, and would have psychologically reinforced my kids tendency to "withdraw" on all fronts. Both my kids are now slowly expanding their menus, which is hugely good news. Few people can tell anymore that my daughter has autism, and my son -- who was surely more disabled by the condition to begin with -- is making great strides these days.
What a great video.. My ped. told me that where some kids do get autism from the vaccines, the vast majority don't.. And for the greater good of the people we still do vaccines.. So to a mom with a autistic son i feel like my sons rights as a human, a person, were taken away. That a persons should have that right to say for the good of human kind i will take that burden.. My son was not giving that right and i am mad!!
A Mixed Review :)
