Brandon was born after an emergency c section my daughter his mom was in labor for a while before they finally decided to do a c section, he has his hand wrapped in the cord and every time she pushed he cut off his oxygen and his heart beat went down. Right after birth they knew he had microcephaly from the size of his head compared to the rest of his body , he weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces. They sent him to the genetics clinic soon after birth, and he was diagnosed with microcephaly and did not now how sever or what probleknms it would cause, Brandon hardly ever cried he was always smilng he started babbling like any other baby but then he stopas ped and the doctors said he could not hear, he was tiny and not growing, He started walking at 9 months old much to our surprise he took off, But he did not talk , not even mama and dada, He went through baby net , and they too thought he was deaf, He started 3 year old special needs class and was still treated as though he didn;t know anything, but we knew he was pretty smart, He was put in 4 year old kindergarden and they thought he was having seizures(staring) but he couldn;t hear them, he has been through wearing hearing aids, to seizure medicine, and eventually taken off all , i don;t think the doctors really knew or still know what to do with him, He does have microcephaly his head is smaller than his 5 year old brothers, he has a speech dealy, developmental delay, really small ear canals that he has to have cleaned every 3 weeks and sometimes has to have surgery to clean them out good, he has central auditory processing disorder, he has autism spectrum disorder, his mouth is too small for his teeth, its hard for him to gain weight, he has low muscle tone, getting tired real easy while walking, He does not have the physical characteristics of the microcephaly, he hair he won;t let us cut because then youcan see his head, and he knows its different, he won;t talk in front of strangers because he knows he talks different and doesn;t want to be made fun of. He is very good with computers and video games, mom and dad divorced when he was 4 and dad lives in another state , but in my daughters family she is also struggling with two more children who have problems also, not as severe as Brandon but still hard to deal with, 9 year old Brittni was born with severe restless leg syndrome and periodic leg movement, and she has adhd and separation anxiety, Brother James was born with ear problems and has a hole in his right eardrum, He also has sinus tacy cha rdia,(rapid heartbeat), why am i writing this? My daughter is at work or school trying to support these three babies, The main problem we are having with Brandon now is the genetics doctor said his head has not grown in three years he is now 10 and we are worried what that will mean! He is due to have a mri soon and more testing, Its scary and my daughter is a nervous wreck trying finish her college degree since the divorce and work too. Her children are her main concern and well, we are just scared.
